Vision

The vision of QSTP is to be a recognized international hub for applied research, innovation and entrepreneurship

Operations

QSTP provides:

  • Strategy and partnership on inward technology projects
  • Research-ready premises and infrastructure
  • Support programs (e.g. training, grants, investment)
  • Free-zone environment
  • Links to co-located universities

To four main constituents:

  • Technology-based companies (e.g. GE)
  • Start-up technology ventures (e.g. Fuego)
  • QSTP-led technology projects (e.g. robotic surgery center)
  • Qatar community (e.g. entrepreneurship training)

Structure:

QSTP is part of Qatar Foundation (QF), a 1,000-hectare campus of schools, universities and national facilities in Doha. QF was established by His Highness the Amir in 1995 and is chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. QF and QSTP are not-for-profit entities.

Milestones:

Buildings:

  • QSTP’s total area is 120 hectares, of which 35 hectares have been developed
  • Innovation and Technology Transfer Centers:
    Location for medium and large companies. Can be configured with offices, laboratories and training areas. Comprises a pair of 15,000 square meter buildings with leased spaces of 500 to 6,000 square meters.
  • Emerging Technology Center:
    Location for small companies and start-up ventures. Fully furnished and serviced office suites. A 12,000 square meters building with leased spaces starting from 45 square meters.
  • Tenants can also commission their own buildings.

Free Zone:

QSTP is a free zone with:

  • Easy establishment of a company or branch
  • 100 percent foreign ownership
  • No taxes
  • Duty-free import and export
  • Unrestricted repatriation of capital and profits

Entry Requirements:

  • All members of QSTP must have technology development (e.g. applied research, development and testing of a product or service, or technology training) as their main activity

  • 2009 (Opening): 12 companies with 270 staff
  • 2011: 48 companies with 800 staff
  • 2012: 50 companies with 1,000 staff (Forecast)
