QSTP agrees three-year Management Contract with ANGLE Technology

Doha, 11 April 2005 - Qatar Foundation has appointed ANGLE Technology to provide specialised skills to manage Qatar's Science & Technology Park (STP) under an Outsourced Management Contract that will run until March 2009.

UKbased ANGLE Technology is an international venture management and consulting group focussed on the commercialisation of intellectual property and development of technology businesses.  With particular expertise in bioscience, electronics, IT, materials technology, optronics, nanotechnology and software, ANGLE Technology is ideally placed to maximise the opportunities available to STP.

Under the terms of the contract, ANGLE will provide Qatar Foundation with a specialised project team, supported by additional staff resources from Europe and the US, charged with ensuring the effective establishment and operation of Qatar's Science & Technology Park.  ANGLE will be responsible for leadership on strategic and operational activities, management of technology transfer issues, the development of STP's physical presence and external profile, as well as programs supporting Qatar's development and commercialisation of technology.  The value of the contract is over £6 million.

"We are delighted to partner with ANGLE in ensuring that Qatar's Science & Technology Park will be the engine that powers Qatar's technological and research development," said Dr Charles Young, President of Qatar Foundation.  "They have an impeccable pedigree in the United States and Europe and bring a wealth of management experience and technological expertise that will be invaluable in ensuring our objectives for STP are met."

His Excellency Dr Abdulla Al Kubaisi, Chairman of STP, Director of the Office of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned and Member of the Qatar Foundation Board of Directors, noted that "Over the past fifteen months Qatar Foundation has been impressed with ANGLE's performance in getting Qatar's Science & Technology Park off the ground.  We are very confident they will continue this success over the coming years."

Those achievements so far have included the creation and ratification of a five-year strategic and operating plan, the progression of five major companies toward establishing presences at STP, facilitating relationships between the companies and Qatar's universities, and the specification of infrastructure, services and support programs for tenant companies.

Andrew Newland, CEO of ANGLE Technology, said, "I am very pleased that ANGLE has been selected to deliver the next critical phase of STP's development.  This is an important milestone for our company, and will enable us to demonstrate in a new environment the value that technology commercialisation plays in economic and human development.  We eagerly look forward to helping Qatar Foundation achieve its exceptional vision for STP."

Dr Eulian Roberts, who has been seconded to Qatar Foundation by ANGLE as Chief Executive of STP under the terms of the Management Contract, is equally enthusiastic about the future for STP.  "Qatar's Science & Technology Park offers a unique combination of benefits that directly result from its location at Education City in Qatar.  Our job will be to maximise the opportunities that derive from those benefits and use our particular expertise to add value and ensure that STP quickly establishes itself as an international hub for research and commercialisation."
